Menwinnion Country House is one of the finest retirement homes in the country. Our Care Team is dedicated to providing the highest quality of life for our cherished ladies and gentlemen. Menwinnion provides a tranquil, relaxing and spacious environment within beautiful grounds, with the benefits of care assistance as needed from our trained friendly staff.

Menwinnion Country House has a fascinating history and has recently celebrated its own 100th Birthday. The house was built by the famous local artist Frank Heath as a present for his wife, Jessica, in 1912. Frank Heath was associated with both the Newlyn and Lamorna Schools of artists. Jessica was also a talented artist in her own right and often painted her children sitting on the rocks by Lamorna Cove. Unfortunately, Frank was severely gassed in the Great War and struggled with poor health for the rest of his life. The pre-war (WW1) period was a time of extremely talented group of bohemian artists, several of whom went on to become Knights and Dames. Their lifestyles and beautifully painted land and seascapes have been immortalised in the movie 'Summer in February' released June 2013.

The Heath family lived here for over 20 years before selling the house to a local solicitor, who on his death, passed the house on to his brother, the Cornish author and soldier "Elephant Bill" Williams, OBE. Apparently, elephants roamed the grounds in the 1950's and their bones are buried in the gardens! Menwinnion went on to become a Country Club Hotel and then in the 1980's it was converted to a luxury retirement home.

Over the last few years the AbleCare Partnership have modernized and expanded the house, transforming it into "a care home fit for the 21st Century", whilst retaining the ambiance and stylish lifestyle of a bygone era.

Our philosophy is to provide care based around each persons' needs and to promote their personal choices and preferences. Whatever the need, care is delivered with patience, kindness, discretion and understanding. Our Core Values of Care: Privacy – Dignity – Rights – Independence – Choice – Fulfilment – Security – Respect – Equality – FUN.

Most importantly, at Menwinnion Country House Care Home, we never forget that life should be FUN!!!

We guarantee to surpass your expectations of what you would expect from a Care Home.
